KUWAIT CITY: The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) announced on Monday a significant offshore natural gas discovery, describing it as a “major exploration achievement” with reserves projected at around one trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas.
In an official statement, the KOC — a subsidiary of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) — revealed that the newly discovered Jazah offshore gas field spans approximately 40 square kilometres (15 square miles).
Preliminary tests have shown production levels exceeding 29 million cubic feet of gas per day, underscoring the field’s substantial commercial potential.
Kuwait, one of the world’s leading oil producers, has been intensifying efforts to diversify its energy mix and expand domestic gas production to strengthen energy security and support industrial growth.
Minister of Oil and KPC Chairman Tariq Suleiman Al-Roumi hailed the discovery as a strategic milestone, aligning with Kuwait’s long-term plan to enhance energy independence and economic sustainability.
“Efforts are currently underway to accelerate the development of the newly discovered offshore fields and integrate them into the national production system,” Al-Roumi stated. “This will contribute to economic growth, energy security, and the creation of new job opportunities for Kuwaiti professionals.”
The discovery marks a major boost for Kuwait’s upstream sector and reinforces the country’s commitment to advancing exploration and production activities beyond its traditional onshore reserves.
